Day 7, Thursday: More experiments, horses and ziplines....

Day 7
¡Puda Vida!
We've been in Costa Rica for a week now and we're having so much fun, I wish we could stay for a month.  Last night we were awakened the sound of Pinto's car alarm blaring in the night. We awoke to a beautiful morning with the sun shinning. For breakfast we had the best eggs I've ever eaten, rice and beans, yogurt and granola, and toast with jam. The groups worked very hard this morning on their research with the Atta. For lunch we had marinated beef in an amazing sauce, rice and beans, potatoes and carrots. In the afternoon we split into two different groups and half went horseback riding and half went on the zip line canopy tour above the amazing rain forest. When we returned some of us went to the store located in the village, Colonial libertidad, about half a mile from Finca La Anita. For dinner we had pork chops, carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, red cabbage salad, and rice pudding for dessert. We have arrived in the middle of the bullet ant mating cycle, we've seen several queens. Bullet ants are rightfully named so because they are rumored to hurt as much being shot by a bullet. Doriane, the woman working with Ana and Pablo, got stung by a dead bullet ant, luckily it was dead so it is only supposed to sting for a few days. The day was beautiful sunny all day and it only rained in the late evening. After dinner we got a presentation from the Peace Corps volunteer, Andrea Welsh, she lives in the village near Finca La Anita, she talked about her experience in the corps, and highly recommended it to us. I would love to volunteer but I can't think of a time when I could. I think it would be an amazing experience.

Buenos noches,
Julian
