Day 6: August 3, 2011

Halooooo! It's Alyna and Birch, sitting down to a nice dinner  of chicken lasagna and plantain chips after an exhilerating day. It began bright and early for some, who woke up at 5:30 to begin their science experiments, only to find the lab locked. Needless to say, the fresh costa rican coffee we get every morning was especially popular, as well as the fruit, omelets, rice and beans and delicious fresh baked banana cake. Next came the official science time, which included fungus growing, an introduction to presenting our experiments and various lab and field based work. Lunch was a delicious boost of energy in time for our afternoon adventures. Half the group journeyed to the treetops to zipline forward, backward, and upside-down. The other half scaled mountains, bounded through fields, and slid down muddy hills, all on horseback! The weary adventurers returned home to runs, more experiements, and showers.

P.s. What happened last night...
Since yesterday's was posted before dinner, we will describe that now! We visited two homes belonging to colonia libertad and ate dinner there. The bilingual table discussion ranged from mispronunciations, tongue twisters, metallica to dipthongs (a pronunciation term). Their warm generosity made us feel welcome immediately and we are all so thankful that we got such a fun and educating cultural experience.

¡Hasta luega y pura vida!

  1. Sounds excellent! I am so happy you are having this experience. Enjoy the food while you can, because only a few days after your return, it will be the camping grub I am dehydrating as I write, which is good too, but it's not banana cake! Love you, Birch. Mom
